Acton began gluing matchsticks together in January 2019 for his 50th anniversary tribute to man’s first steps on the moon during the 1969 Apollo 11 landing. Standing nearly 8 feet tall, the ¼-scale model lunar lander Eagle took 263,000 matchsticks and 15 gallons of wood glue. Acton completed the 1/17-scale model of the Saturn V rocket in April 2020. It stretches over 20 feet high and includes 241,000 matchsticks and 13 gallons of wood glue.
